2013 Recap!

This year has been busy!   I haven't gotten as much painting done as I would have liked due to busy life schedule.  Most of my painting gets done in the cold dark days of winter and now that summer is here again there is just too much to do in the garden.  I try to do some photography of my favorite spots in Nova Scotia so I will have some inspiration once the snow flies again and I am back in the studio a bit more.  I have sold a few "small" paintings lately  - generally 5 x 7" or 6 x 6" - and I really have fun creating those.  I am more of a "big" painter so I find them challenging.  I am still working on my garden abstracts which as you can see are getting quite colorful.  This one was recently sold from the Lunenburg Art Gallery.

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my new blog site, where I will occasionally update my progress as an artist.  I intend to continue to grow in my artistic endeavors and will share my latest works, frustrations, failures and triumphs.  Living on a lovely little farm in Lunenburg county, Nova Scotia, I am surrounded by inspiration to apply to my canvas.

Right now I am trying to get my studio/gallery space up to snuff - pictures to follow when it is more presentable!  I have been doing a bit of painting this summer - but the weather was so nice, I am definitely behind on all of the ideas I have for upcoming paintings.  Here are a few recent works I have done.

At the Islands, oil on canvas, 48" X 24"
This painting is inspired by time spent at the Lahave Islands with good friends of mine.

Sheep in the pasture, oil on canvas, 20" X 20"
Living so near to Ross Farm Museum, I often run through the farm on my running route (when they are closed) and try not to startle these guys pasturing at the back of the property

Right now I am working on a theme of Tufts Cove smokestacks, which I started about 6 months ago.  I have two peices done so far - including a painting based on this photo, but I will have to take a trip back to Dartmouth to see if I can discover another interesting angle to paint them.  I have looked at them all my life living in Halifax, and found them oddly pretty against the harbour and skyline.
